How many misting head assemblies can I use with the pump included in the Mist King starter kit ?

You may use up to a maximum of 8 misting nozzles. Any
more and you should either get a larger pump or purchase an additional
Mist King kit and run two separate systems. When using maximum of
8 nozzles slightly larger droplet size may be observed.

What timer would you recommend to use ?

We do not recommend using the commonly available digital timers with our misting systems. The best timer to use is a repeat cycle timer (RCT). RCTs work on basis of "on cycle" and "off cycle". For example, you can set it to: "turn on for 20sec every 3 hrs". The downfall of regular digital timers is in minimum cycle time and reliability. The minimum on time is one minute, which would be somewhat OK, if it wasn't for the next point. Unless you're very vigilant and regularly replace the batteries, sooner or later your digital timer will fail. Consequences will depend on what is plugged into your timer. The clock in your digital timer is powered by a watch battery. Once this battery gets drained, you will start experiencing problems with your timer either not turning on, or not turning off when it is supposed to. If it does not turn on your misting system, no big deal, you'll skip a misting cycle. Problem arises when it will turn on, but it won't turn off your misting system. Due to this scenario, we now offer thermal protection on all our pumps. In the event this happens, you will use up all the water in the reservoir, flood your tank, possibly drown your pets, depending on your tank design, possibly overflow onto your expensive mahogany floor, then you will cause your pump to run dry, possily damaging it in the process. All due to a drained $0.99 battery. You can however use your digital timer in conjunction with a repeat cycle timer and benefit from the ultimate control of your misting system. When the RCT is powered, whatever is plugged into it will be turned on for whatever the on cycle time is set to. Once the cycle is done, it will turn off for the duration of the OFF cycle. This means, that plugging in the RCT into your digital timer will give you full control and a piece of mind. For example, you could set the digital timer for 7am and turn off at 7:01am and your RCT on cycle to 25sec. You will benefit from a shorter cycle time and you will be guarantied that even if your digital timer fails, your RCT will turn off your mister. You can have the best of both worlds, on cycles as little as 5 seconds, precise control of the on times and a piece of mind that you will not cause a flood and burn out your pump. I thought that the pump was supposed to be quiet. What's going on?

Yes, once pressurized and operating the pump should be quite quiet. Very often after hooking a mister to a tank, hobbyists are very anxious to see the mist come out of the nozzles and they do not finish off the installation of the mister. The loud noise that you might be hearing is actually not coming from the pump, but from the vibrations of the tubing. The rapid oscillations of the piston in the pump cause the tubing to vibrate. Wherever the vibrating tubing is touching any solid objects like base boards, sides of cabinet, hardwood flooring, etc, the sound will be greatly amplified. Please make sure that pump is properly mounted, or at least laying on a piece of soft foam and that tubing is well secured. TIP: To secure tubing you may use wire clips, twist ties, zip ties, etc. You will further reduce the noise if you will line the path of the tubing with thin foam (ie weather stripping) and place tubing on top of it. Once you eliminate the banging of the tubing your mister will be very quiet.

Why are the nozzles costly?

This is a premium misting kit which offers many advantages and improvements over the cheaper systems available. All the fittings and nozzles are imported from overseas and are top quality. If you are just starting out in a tropical hobby or really watching your budget, you may want to consider a cheaper system or misting by hand. Just remember, you do get what you pay for. We opted not to compromise on the quality of any of the components used in our nozzles. The aim was to provide the best most reliable, easy to use and maintain misting solution with the most practical design.

How is the Mist King system superior to other systems available on the market?

Mist King system has several advantages over the less expensive misters available. Here are few:
- Premium fittings, made of industry grade high resistance polymer and nickel-plated brass, will provide years of use. Other misters use cheap plastic parts that break after several attempts to disassemble.
- There are no messy clamps which need to be tightened with a screwdriver
- No more flimsy leaky connections through the (plexi)glass. Plug in bulkhead connection makes assembly much easier.
- Our nozzles sit in a nickel-plated brass tapered female pipe fitting. No worries that you will easily strip the thread on the nozzle or the fitting. No more teflon tape !!!
- All connections are based on push in fittings. Assembly and dissasembly takes seconds
- Our red misting nozzles have a built in check valve to significantly reduce nozzle drip and sputter once misting is complete. This is a HUGE deal for enclosures that are not drained. In the long run this translates to less frequent tank draining and more time for you to enjoy your hobby.
